Not Like MOST comics...
Been Reading/Collecting comics for 20 years...The first one that really jumped ouit and made a DENT in me was MAGE:The HERO DISCOVERED...Recently, IMAGE COMICS reprinted the original series with some re-COLORING, and a whole SLEW of extra features (reprints of "interlude" stories, promo art, etc.). Written and drawn by MATT WAGNER...It's an allegory on MODERN DAY HEROICS, but the characters don't wear costumes, they don't speak in generic comic-book superhero melodramatic cliches, and right from the outset, you can tell that the creator takes this story and what it stands for VERY PERSONALLY. The characters are very credible, and likeable, and even the BAD GUYS have traits about them that can be very endearing at times. The artwork is very raw, experimental, and upfront, but as the story goes on, the improvements and developments that follow it are STAGERRING.To this day, I'd put this story up against the best work of some of the other really famous comic guys of this time (Frank Miller, Alan Moore, etc)...and even if you thought other things were better, I PROMISE you'll understand why at least one person (me) thinks that this book is worth EVERY CENT YOU'LL PAY FOR IT..."Magic Is Green." - The Gyro Captain , posted 06/11/06
