Okay
I think Starbucks is "okay." I think they usually have a nice environment, good music playing in the background, a good selection of drinks, gift items, and pastries. Let's face it, I've yet to find any coffee shop that is much cheaper when it comes to espresso.

Let's face it, it takes a little something extra to get a small business to compete with a big business. They have the advantage of bulk buys, corporate recognition, and mass marketing.

They have taken advantage of a market, just like everybody else wanted to. Shit, I remember 10 years ago when there WASN"T a coffee place on every other corner. Over the years people noticed a market, put up the little coffee stands, (which many of sucked by the way) and then Starbucks came in and did the same thing. So, okay, bummer that a lot of places went out of business. Not all of those places were organic, fair trade, hip/community oriented places. Starbucks provides people with jobs, decent coffee, and a place to hang out and talk with friends or do homework.

All I'm saying is, yeah, their not perfect, but they are not the incarnate of Satan like some people are making them out to be. - Ian , posted 12/10/06

Starbucks in San Francsico
I like the fact that they are introducing mild and medium blends and attempting to educate about the different coffee beans. I used to hate starbucks because they only served french roast. I've never liked my coffee burnt and acidic, so when they started intoducing sumatras, kenyas, and so on and listing more or less the roasting range, they inticed me in and served me up a great cup of coffee. Unfortunately in my neighborhood the mamas and the papas business owners haven't wanted to be innovative enough to change from acidic, burnt french roast. I check in now and then, but until they change I'm happy to give my money to Starbucks. Now if I could just find a place that had the ambiance and coffee of Penny Lane, I'd be a five-star happy gal. - Sarah , posted 09/24/06

So I'd Like To Know
I've heard that Starbuck's owns one of or both of Tully's and Seattle's Best. Does anyone know the answer?

And ~ Let's start identifying the local independent coffee shops that deserve our support. A couple off the top of my head: CyberDog Cafe (Seattle, tucked into a corner of the convention center); Wired and Unplugged (Snohomish); Honey Bear Cafe (part of Third Place Books in Seattle). - LightFoot , posted 09/24/06

did you hear they are raising their prices on all drinks?
i know its only a nickle, but come on, i am usally disappointed the few times i go there. when i say "NO FOAM" i mean no foam. im not paying for a viente so you can give me a tall with lots of foam. or the time they guy didnt put caramel in my CARAMEL APPLE CIDER - uh dood. its part of the drink! and then he looked at me funny when i asked for it.

there are plenty of great places in seattle to get coffee. starbucks is fine in pinch, but definately not my first choice. - nubbee , posted 09/23/06

Starbucks is a front for COBRA
I actually don't think their coffee is very good at all. It's overpriced and makes me ill. There is a starbucks in El Sobrante, the only coffee shop within a mile or so. Actually the closest other coffee shop is the Starbucks in Pinole. Ugh. Starbucks is the reason I bought a french press.

While they pay their employees a good starting wage, and middle managers have excellent advancement opportunities, the same could be said of Monsanto. Or Al Qaeda. - Professor , posted 07/25/06

Good Coffee Sure But at What Cost?
Starbucks is about as coparate and un "punk" as you can get. The company deliberatly opens up next to small coffee shops that have good atmosphere and a soul and it crushes them until only it remains. Sure that is how capitalism works right? Survival of the fitest? My cousins spent 5 years working to save money to open up a coffee shop in minesota. They were open for 1 month, had art shows, allowed live bands, had a good time with the community. Then suddenly Starbucks opened up on the corner and they went out of business in 1 month and that street had less culture, less art and became more like the Amerika that all the world sees and grimaces at.

This corparation is evil, they try to disguise their style with propaganda, they delete art, they make the world less exotic. Wake up and smell the coffee elsewhere. - Shadow , posted 07/23/06

Quality
I don't particularly like coffee, but I do enjoy other non-coffee drinks that cafés are notorious for selling, and I have to say that, even though Starbucks is outrageously expensive, it is often the best quality drink you can find.
Sure, you can save money by going other places, but why not treat yourself to something *really* good every once and a while?
Plus, it's a worldwide enterprise that originated in Seattle. How cool is that? - Tim , posted 03/27/06

Starfucks rapes thee planet
Please do not recommend Starbucks on my page as the Agent of Change will come out as Kali Ma.
Take a look Starfucks shows up on every corner where a local ,organic coffeeehouse and works to drive them out of bizness tho they can not as their coccee is tainted with slave trade.
How do i know ?
I work as an Ecologist ,Indigenous Peoples Advocate and Agent of Change in Central & South America.
The coffeee planations are destroying the rainforest rapidly...Starfucks DOES NOT have shade grown Fair Trade coffee contrary to popular hogwash.
please go visit a coffee plantation and speak to the Indigenous people that work there.
There arms will be black form the resin of the coffeee beans and PESTICIDES,their backs broken from their burden...and their eyes filled with sorrow about working 12 hr days and stilll not being able to feed their family.

Suppport Yerba Mate,Maca,Acai,Qat tea. These are all Traditional Medicines which are grown wild and the Indigenous People are supported fully from this.
I help these medicines come to the U.S.
so ask me if u wish to have a uplifting experience and support the Rainforest at the same time.

great coffee, as usual
I brought in 3 stuffed animals for the toy drive and although they could not tak eunwrapped ones, they offered me a coffee for my good intentions.

The coffee, as always, is great.

I really appreciated the spontaneous acknowledgement of my efforts. - yogamoon , posted 12/04/05
