Hillside Quickies has absolutely delicious sandwiches. The exterior of the deli is quite unassuming - so unassuming in fact, that I have spent years walking right past it without taking notice. At the recommendation of a friend I gave it a try and was pleasantly surprised. Vegan sandwiches that offer savory flavors that could satiate even the most carnivorous of palettes. Hillside Quickies is located on Brooklyn Avenue NE and NE 42nd Street in Seattle's University District. It was started by Ayinde Howell, a local African-American entrepreneur, who wanted African-American food to be healthier and also wanted to have a restaurant that suits Ital standards (like kosher, but for rastafarians). He also wanted to make the attempt to meld together veganism and hip-hop culture. My favorite is the Tofu Teriyaki Udon.
