Farmers of All Colors
Walking through Columbia City is already a trip down "Diversity Lane," with Black, Latino, Asian, Queer, Middle Eastern influences all within a few blocks. But here, at this market, every Wednesday through October from 3PM to 7PM at Rainier and S. Edmunds, all these people come together in the spirit of celebration, old and young, families, you name it, selling organic vegetables, cheeses, home-made sauces, fish, bread and pastries. Just outside the market, I ran into Arturo, a man from Costa Rica, selling organic coffee he grew himself. On the other side of the market, there was a man from Africa selling beautiful handmade drums. Each week fills me with the joy of connection and a good feeling that my money is going directly to the farmers and artists. - Ganesha , posted 08/21/05
