SAN Storage Engineer
The Storage Engineer position is primarily focused on operational support such as provisioning existing storage capacity, daily monitoring and maintenance, implementation of new storage infrastructure, backup and recovery, and tactical planning for these ongoing activities.
This position interacts with members of all Global IT teams in a collaborative ongoing fashion to implement and support multi-layered infrastructure solutions. It is common for this position to traverse the organization laterally and upwards to interact with managers and leads of associated groups.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
* Install, build, configure and maintain the storage infrastructure in a production datacenter
environment.
* Configure and maintain a global SAN implementation
* Promote system reliability and efficiency by creating and implementing system standards
and operational best-practices; provide technical leadership in design and administration
decisions for SAN/backup systems.
* Facilitate the planning of component and feature upgrades, and plan & participate in
scheduled off-hours service outage upgrades
* Perform and document system operations processes and procedures including installation
and testing of storage upgrades, fail-over, and configuration
* Communicate issues clearly to business and technical groups within the company.
* Enforce operational SAN security guidelines and procedures
* Participate in a team of 3-5 individuals on a regional basis in Storage/SAN services,
NAS, and WAFS in areas such as technical support services, monitoring, Systems
Services, operations, and technology projects management. This may include a
combination of in-house and outsource staff.
* Maintain IT Storage infrastructure, and participate in developing a strategy for a global
service delivery model, covering and responsible for North America EMEA and Asia.
REQUIREMENTS:
* Minimum of 3 to 5 years current experience implementing and supporting SAN/backups
in mission-critical production Microsoft Windows centric datacenter environments
* Ability to provide Tier 2 support on all production and non-production storage issues.
* Experience implementing and supporting new technologies and understanding of
associated business implications with a basic amount of supervision.
* Fundamental understanding of Fibre Channel, and iSCSI network configuration
* Experience with QLogic, Brocade, McData or Cisco fibre channel switches
* Experience with Emulex HBAs
* Experience with EMC platforms including CLARiiON, Symmetrix/DMX, Celerra,
Connectrix, Powerpath, Navisphere, and Enterprise Control Center (ECC)
* Experience with IBM, HDS, Sun, or HP arrays a plus
* Experience with enterprise backups, in a SAN environment using CommVault
Galaxy/Simpana.
* Experience with NetApp, BlueArc, OnStor or Isilon enterprise NAS a plus
* Experience with Microsoft DFS, NetApp VFM or Brocade StorageX
* Ability to execute multiple IT projects & deadlines effectively with supervision.
* Excellent written and oral communication skills
* Ability to participate in shared 24/7 on-call schedule
* Ability to provide specific examples of past experience as detailed above
